Name: Raymond Edward Curr
Year: 6th
Gender: Dude
Favorite Color: He likes blue and gray, though blue may win by a bit.
Background Information: Ray's mother was a squib, his father a wizard. His father didn't know his mother was a squib and his mother didn't know his father was a wizard until the two were married. For a long time, it stressed their relationship. Ray's mother, Arabella, had already been pregnant before the marriage, so Ray was born into a very stressed situation. His parents were still rather temperamental towards one another. Arabella didn't like Ray's father, Vincent, because she didn't trust wizards, and Vincent didn't like Arabella because he considered squibs to be a disgrace to the magical community. Only about three years ago, when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was rumored to have returned to power, did his parents forget their differences. It's relieved Ray quite a bit, so his usually tense personality has become a bit more laid-back and easygoing in the past few years. Ray was what you may consider a 'late bloomer.' For a while his parents thought he was nonmagical, but then when he was almost six, he magically caused his mother's car to run out of gas when she tried to take him to a muggle doctor. His father was delighted, and immediately began teaching Ray magic. Through his years at Hogwarts, Ray has become a pretty good spellcaster. Last year he took his O.W.L.s, so this year his classes include: Ancient Runes, Transfiguration, Charms, Defense against the Dark Arts, and Potions. He absolutely hates History of Magic and Herbology, and didn't do well enough in Astronomy to continue taking the class. He's certainly had some interesting experiences at Hogwarts, having had an odd encounter with Moaning Myrtle once and finding himself lost in the school quite a few times. He doesn't have the best sense of direction, and it was only two years ago, his fourth year, that he really got used to the layout of the castle.
One of his greatest hobbies is chess. When he had been thought to be a muggle, his mother taught him muggle chess, but after going to Hogwarts he was introduced to the much more eventful wizards chess. He's great at the game, almost unbeatable. Ray also has a knack for Quidditch, playing as a chaser usually, but isn't quite good enough to make the team, or at least he hasn't been in the past few years. Other than that, Ray spends a great deal of his time studying and practicing new spells and charms. He just loves Hogwarts.
Personality: Ray is very smart, or maybe just a bit of a bookworm. Nevertheless, he still manages to get out a bit. He's sort of shy, though not to the point that he never talks. He's very nice and opened with others, and he just /hates/ liars. He can joke around sometimes, but tends to be very serious. Ray is easy to irritate, although if you apologize he won't hold a grudge. Being rather laid-back, he's not one to jump up and go at the idea of an adventure. He likes to consider the rules and logic behind something, so basically he just thinks before he acts. His courage has its limits. He'll stick up for himself and his friends, but won't jump in to help any old stranger. He likes to question others, whether it be their judgment, their opinions, or facts they claim to know. He always seems to have an endless stream of questions. It can annoy some, but he doesn't really care. Ray has some more annoying qualities, but overall he's pretty easy to get along with.
One other thing is that he HATES being called Raymond. Anyone who wants to be his friend rather than just aggravate him should address him by the title of Ray. Some people even joke around and call him Raker, basically just Ray and his last name, Curr, mashed together. He dislikes being called that too, though he's less likely to yell at you for it. Just call him Ray.
